Taylor Swift has drawn public praise from the estate of Elizabeth Taylor.

Following the release of a music video described as an "extraordinary" homage to the late Hollywood star, the singer was hailed thanks to the promo accompanying Taylor's track Elizabeth Taylor, which was part of her The Life of a Showgirl project.

Released during International Women's Month, it is constructed entirely from archival footage of Elizabeth, who died aged 79, featuring clips from films including A Place in the Sun, Cleopatra, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Father of the Bride.

Elizabeth was known for her Oscar-winning performances in BUtterfield 8 and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, as well as her public life and personal relationships, including her marriage to Richard Burton, who died aged 58.

The video also includes visual references to her jewellery, notably the 33-carat Krupp Diamond ring.

Swift previously discussed seeking approval from Elizabeth's estate during an appearance on BBC Radio 2 following the album's release.

A representative for Elizabeth's estate has now told TMZ: "What makes this piece so remarkable is its pure devotion to Elizabeth's legacy: composed entirely of archival film clips, from her iconic screen performances to candid moments, it is a celebration of Elizabeth from beginning to end, and an homage in the truest sense."

The representative added: "(The estate is) delighted by this celebration" and the "care with which Taylor Swift has spotlighted what so many have long understood: Elizabeth Taylor was a true icon, a trailblazer in every sense of the word."

They also said: "(Elizabeth) lived unapologetically and on her own terms, embracing her public life with grace and courage while fiercely protecting the private world she cherished with family and friends.

"That balance, that duality, was one of her most remarkable qualities.

"If there is anyone navigating the extraordinary pressures of global fame with comparable authenticity and strength, it is Taylor Swift.

"The estate is honored that she chose to pay tribute in this way, and have no doubt that Elizabeth would have loved every frame of it."

Speaking previously on BBC Radio 2, Taylor Swift said: "People like Elizabeth Taylor, we go to her estate and let them know. And they were lovely about it."
